Our current plan is postpone the TAGS Spring Season to run from April 25 through June 30. The registration deadline is also postponed, to April 18. However, we are keeping all options open, including 1) cancellation of the spring season; 2) running a single season for 2020, beginning as soon as is prudent and allowable by governmental social distancing requirements; 3) other formats, such as tournaments, or other events, if allowable later in the year. The TAGS Board intends to refund membership and league fees in scenarios where play is not held AND to anyone who chooses not to participate based on Corona Virus concerns. We will make adjustments and announcements about changing plans here, via Facebook, and via mass emails.
To register, click the Register On-line link below. Or, if you prefer, you may print and mail the paper form, found here - Paper Form. If you are registering via the paper form, you should also review the LIABILITY WAIVER, found Here. Register here - Register On-line.
Social distancing concerns: 1) Stay home and don't schedule a match if you are sick, especially if you have fever, cough, or shortness of breath; 2) avoid hand-shaking or close contact with your opponents or partners; 3) Wash hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer before and after you play; 4) don't share racquets unless you sanitize them, and 5) don't re-use tennis balls for games/practice or share them with children or pets unless you sanitize them after use (soak in 10% solution of household bleach in water for at least 5 minutes, allow to air dry). A novel idea - play with two sets of balls of different colors. Only touch the balls of one color; retrieve the other color with your racket or feet - i.e., without touching it with your hands.
TAGS Annual Party
The 2019 Annual Party for Adult and Youth members was held at the Spokane Club on Saturday, November 9.. T-shirts were awarded to those completing all their matches (Spring, Summer, and Youth), and first and second prizes were awarded to singles and doubles league winners.
A tennis clinic, gourmet pizza dinner, and informally organized play were all part of the festivities.
Members also voted to adopt new bylaws (made necessary by our registration as a 501(c)(3) last year)and elected the board members for 2020.
Who We Are
We are the Tennis Association of Greater Spokane, or TAGS. We organize and play tennis at a variety of levels and age groupings in the Spokane area. We also support Youth tennis by organizing a summer league for players under 18, and by granting scholarships to youth members who demonstrate a desire to improve their game and sportsmanship. In 2019, we became a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions to support tennis in our community.
How We Play
Players arrange the dates, times, and locations of their own matches. Matches are played best two out of three sets, regular ad scoring, with a 10-point tie breaker in lieu of a full third set, if necessary. Players can agree beforehand to a full third set, or other score-keeping, if necessary for time, weather, or other reasons.
The winning player or team reports their scores, and the TAGS League Coordinator keeps track of the official results and standings. Players who complete all their matches in each season receive a custom TAGS T-shirt.
We play at whatever courts are available and mutually agreeable to the players - Courts. In 2018, we played over 270 matches on 18 different courts, with Mission Park, Comstock Park, and Hart Field being the most popular locations.
